The Consumption of Holocaust in Turkey 1989–2016

Lecture in English by Rɪfat Bali, Istanbul. There has been recently an increased interest and attention to Holocaust commemoration ceremonies in Turkey. More and more Turkish and foreign NGOs have been involved in educational seminaries aiming to educate human rights activists and Turkish universities’ faculty members.

Furthermore in recent years the Holocaust has been also the subject of movies, novels, and concerts in Turkey. This lecture will attempt to analyze the real motives of this surge of interest of these different actors and will give an overview of the instrumentalization and commercialization of the Holocaust in Turkey, by different actors.

Rɪfat Bali is a historian and publisher. In 2015 the anthology Turkish Jews in Contemporary Turkey, edited by him and Laurent-Olivier Mallet, was released by Libra Kitapçılık ve Yayıncılık. Already in 2013 he has published the monograph Antisentism and Conspiracy Theories in Turkey in the same the publishing house.
